| Vehicle | 1979 Subaru Jet ElectraVan I'm not certain if it's a '79 or '80. I saw this van parked on a street outside Washington DC and when I asked about it, the owner gave it to me. It came with no batteries, a shot controller, and a seemingly intact GE motor. |
| Motor | Azure Dynamics/Solectria AC24LS 3-Phase AC |
| Drivetrain | Original 4 speed manual transmission |
| Controller | Azure Dynamics/Solectria DMOC445 |
| Batteries | 20, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded |
| System Voltage | 240 Volts |
| DC/DC Converter | Custom Built The EE Department at Morgan State University in Baltimore is designing a DC-DC converter as well as a solar charger for the 12V battery. |
| Instrumentation | I'm planning a PC based carputer with a connection the DMOC controller and to a data acquisition device (Labjack) to record system parameters. |
| Top Speed | 700 MPH (1126 KPH) Mach 1 or so.... |
| Tires | Teeny-Tiny 10" tires. I am trying to get adapter plates made to allow 13" wheels with low-profile tires. |
| Additional Features | I received a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to rehabilitate this van with a state-of-the-art system. So the old GE system is coming out and I am replacing it with the new system from Azure Dynamics. The rehab is currently about 30% complete - the van body is at a bodyshop for some repair and painting. I am repairing some of the mechanicals - brakes, etc. The motor & controller are on order. I still need to choose batteries, and fabricate a new battery box. |
