| Vehicle | 1975 Murray 11HP 36 This is a dead riding mower conversion project. The result will be an electric lawn tractor that will be used for moving stuff around my large yard. It is also the working prototype for my '88 5.0 Mustang conversion. |
| Motor | General Electric 5BC48JB92 Series Wound DC 60's vintage EZ-GO golf cart motor. It sat unused in the woods for over 30 years, but cleaned up nicely. It is rated 1.5HP @ 2800 RPM and 36V/40A. |
| Drivetrain | Belt drive to stock Murray transaxle (made by Peerless Tecumseh) from original ICE location. I picked up a pulley from Tractor Supply to avoid building anything special. |
| Controller | Curtis 1206 If I can locate a connection diagram.... |
| Batteries | 3 Everstart 27DC-6, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded Walmart deep cycle, (not the starting version). Rated 115AH or 160 minutes at 20A for $62. This class battery seems to be popular for tractor conversions. |
| System Voltage | 36 Volts |
| Charger | Soneil 1212SR I have the original '60s vintage 36V "Golf Car" charger that will belt out 25 amps, but it is just a transformer/variac/rectifier/timer. I will use (3)of the Soneil 12V 5A that I picked up from eBay for $50 each. These will be mounted onboard. |
| Instrumentation | Motor and battery ammeters are planned... |
| Top Speed | TBD |
| Range | TBD |
| Watt Hours/Mile | TBD |
| Seating Capacity | 1 adult |
| Curb Weight | 400 Pounds (181 Kilograms) Estimated... |
| Tires | Typical lawn mower fare. I had to put tubes in, but after 34 years, the tread is still in very good shape. |
| Conversion Time | 100 hours estimated. I get a good rate on my time. :) |
| Conversion Cost | The Murray tractor was free, the motor was free, and the #6 wire was free. The batteries will be around $200, the controller, potbox and contactor should add up to another $200, terminals, fuses, instrumentation are expect to be another $250 for a total of $650 for the EV part. I will probably spend around $100 refurbishing and painting the 1975 donor. |
| Just a grownup Powerwheels riding toy.... | |
