Vehicle1975 Porsche 914
Converted 914 using Electro Auto's AC914 kit. Midway through the conversion, discovered that the lead acid batteries were not strong enough for the motor, switched over the lithium. About the only thing left from the kit is the battery racks - I'm switching over to a BLDC 80kw motor.
Motorunknown GMP25L1 Brushless DC
Used to be the Azure Dynamics AC24. Now the Greatland Electric Motor Company's GMP24L1 (80kw) motor.
DrivetrainStandard 914 transmission (completely rebuilt), with strengthened suspension.
Controller GLCP7024L11
Gretland Electric Motor Company. Liquid cooled controller for BLDC motor.
Batteries108 Skyenergy SE60AH, 3.40 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate
Monitored by mini-BMS from Clean Auto. No longer using Elithion BMS, as it couldn't maintain SOC nor could it stop having communication faults.
System Voltage370 Volts
ChargerManzanita Micro PFC-20
HeaterNone (yet - www.canev.com makes a good one).
DC/DC ConverterAzure Dynamics/Solectria DCDC 750
Older DC-DC converter producing 13.5 volts.
InstrumentationVoltmeters and ammeters for pack and aux battery.

Homebrew computer (based on Parallax computer's propeller) for keeping track of SOC, displaying motor and battery stats.
Top Speed80 MPH (128 KPH)
With AC24 motor, able to keep up with 70mph traffic but no margin for error.
Acceleration0-60 in roughly 18 seconds.
Range55 Miles (88 Kilometers)
55 miles at San Diego freeway speed (70 to 80mph). Longer range at city speed.
Watt Hours/Mile350 Wh/Mile
Overall it got 320 whr/mile - but this also included some autocross-style driving by my mechanic. "normal" driving reduced it to 310.
EV Miles
Start:40,040 Miles (64,424 Kilometers)
Current:41,360 Miles (66,548 Kilometers)
Total:1,320 Miles (2,123 Kilometers)
Seating Capacity2 adult
Curb Weight2,260 Pounds (1,027 Kilograms)
Curb weight at the recycling center scale.
TiresStandard tires.
Conversion Time2 years and counting.
Conversion CostCar - $7k. Kit - $14k. Batteries, BMS, Charger - $15k. DC-DC converter - $400. Transmission - $2.5k.
Total: $39k.
Additional FeaturesRenovated suspension. Rebuilt transmission. Additional computer for monitoring motor temperature and turning fan on/off.
Major learning experience.

For those just starting - get a much newer car. :)

Also, if you buy an air-cooled motor, make sure the motor controller can turn a fan on or off for that motor.

Switching to BLDC liquid cooled motor and controller. Need to have better control over the heat and power.
